Cultural History of Calaveras
The calavera (or skull) is a decoration traditionally used during the Mexican celebrations for Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and All Souls' Day. Calaveras are usually made of sugar or clay and decorate the ofrendas (altars) honoring loved ones who have passed away. Dia De Los Muertos is celebrated on November 1-2.
